This picture is of George A. Fuller the inventor of the skyscraper. He was born in Templeton Massachusetts and was raised in a nice house. Then after he graduated from Andover College he got interested in building and took a class in architecture. When he finished that he went and worked in his Uncles shop for a while. Then he found a spot in the Peabody and Stearns company. The were known for building mansions which is a big step towards a skyscraper if you ask me. Then he got interested in the buildings that rose high off the ground and reached the sky. He wanted to learn more about skyscrapers. After years he worked his way up to the top spot at Peabody and Stearns where he started designing skyscrapers of his own. Some of the more famous big building he he built was a nine story building on wall street, the United Bank Building, and Broadway. After working there for a while he moved to Chicago with his partner C. Everett Clark. But the partnership didn't last long. So Fuller got 50,000 and set up the George Fuller company. Fullers company was very different from the rest of the competition because they handled all kinds of building. One of the more famous buildings his company made was the Chicago Opera house. They used steel beams to build it. His firm also built the Tacoma Building in Chicago which was a skyscraper which was one of his first skyscrapers and it also used steel beams so that it would support the weight. He suddenly died on December 14, 1900.
